A brand-new hospital. A state-of-the-art medical facility unlike any other in West Africa. A medical community to be built from the ground up. The CHIC is looking for a doctor capable of turning an ambitious hospital project into a reality—and of making history.

The Project

Scheduled to open in June 2025, 18 km from Cotonou, the CHIC is Benin’s most ambitious hospital project: 434 beds, 40,000 m², 9 operating rooms, MRI, CT scanner, radiation therapy, interventional cardiology, nuclear medicine, and a cyclotron to be added in the future. Six departments will expand in 2026: oncology, cardiovascular medicine, cardiology, musculoskeletal/neurosurgery, hepatology and gastroenterology, and nephrology/urology.

Elevated to the highest level of government and directly supported by the Office of the President, the CHIC aims to reach the pinnacle of the national healthcare system—with a reach extending throughout the subregion.

The position: medical project manager, not an administrator

The CME has yet to be established. Department heads have yet to be appointed. Teams are being formed as new hires are brought on board. The future Medical Director will not inherit an existing system—he or she will build it from the ground up.

  • Oversee the launch of services and the ramp-up for 2026–2027
  • Establish and lead the Institutional Medical Committee
  • Appoint medical leaders and establish a clinical governance structure
  • Developing a Medical HR Strategy: Attracting Talent, Recruitment, and Retention
  • Lead the medical project alongside senior management
  • Represent CHIC before the Ministry of Health and the Faculty

Profile

A physician with proven experience in institutional leadership—department head, chair of the Medical Executive Committee, assistant medical director, or division head—in a general hospital, university hospital, public healthcare institution, or private clinic in France. A PUPH degree is not required: what matters is the ability to launch, organize, make decisions in the face of uncertainty, and bring together a multidisciplinary medical team.

Two profiles are particularly relevant: the practicing professional seeking a different kind of project, and the recent retiree who wants to put their experience to use on a high-impact project. In both cases: genuine mobility and a sincere commitment to African health development.
